Science Fiction

I discovered a wonderful new way to watch and enjoy romantic comedies this weekend.  It began with an article written by Mindy Kaling for The New Yorker earlier this month.  In it, she explains why she likes these kinds of movies, being able to see them as, " a subgenre of sci-fi, in which the world operates according to different rules than my regular human world."  And it's true.  In these films, situations consistently occur that are completely unbelievable, unrealistic, unfathomable, etc.

So, Saturday night, my sister and I were trying to decide on a movie to watch.  We ended up picking a romantic comedy {a very bad one, I might add}.  I mentioned Ms. Kaling's take on these films, and as we watched, we would yell out, "Science Fiction!" every time something totally and completely unrealistic happened {super hot guy laughs at nerdy girl's quirky behavior; super hot guy does anything with the nerdy girl}.  There were also moments when we would yell, "Real Life" as well because those moments popped up, even if rarely {nerdy girl airs out her armpits a bit before seeing super hot guy}.

I highly suggest you give this a try.  It makes the movies a lot more bearable entertaining.
