Not Even Once?

I don't necessarily put much weight into awards and prizes and such, but one that I do pay attention to is the Oscars.  For one thing I adore the dresses that come out on that night.  And while I don't always agree with who wins what, I think that most of the deserving performances at least get nominated.

However, reading an article on an online entertainment magazine about an upcoming film reminded me that not every deserving performance gets nominated.  And the one that I am most surprised by is Christian Bale.  He has consisently been in well-received and well-reviewed films.  He transforms his body for each role {some to crazy extremes}.  He uses a distinct and unique accent for each role.

And I don't know a lot {if any} about his personal life, but I don't always judge how much I like an actor by that as I do by his or her performances.  So whether or not you like him as a person, you have to admit that the man has some incredible acting abilities.

Now you may be thinking, 'Marie, no, no.  Christian has been nominated.'  Really?  When?  For what?  In his fairly long career {he started acting at 12; he's now 36}, he has not received a single Oscar nomination.  For some actors, this would not be such a shock {Pauly Shore has been acting for the same amount of time}, but Christian Bale?!  He's got a pretty distinguished resume:

Empire of the Sun
Newsies
 A Midsummer's Night Dream
The Machinist
Batman Begins & The Dark Knight
The Prestige
 3:10 to Yuma

One of his upcoming films is "The Fighter" where he'll be seen alongside Mark Wahlberg and Amy Adams {both of whom have been nominated for Oscars}, and the film is already getting Oscar buzz.  And once again Christian has made himself almost unrecognizable {watch the trailer and you'll see what I mean}.

So, will this finally be Christian's year?

it's nice for him to write again he's a great actor but i don't believe an nod for him:he's not enough liked in Hollywood(Bullock won this year because she's likeable ,not because she's a good drama actress)

Debstar, welcome. I'm very happy to have you. And if anything would get you to comment, it would be Mr. Bale. :)

The Machinist is a disturbing movie. You should rent it. He lost like...a lot of weight for it. Haven't actors won awards for losing weight before? I totally agree. Let's get him an Oscar for his office/mantle.

I hope so. I loved him in Newsies (know all the lines and moves--pretty sure I STILL do), but I loved Spot from Brooklyn best.
